Make Elegant Fabric Coasters
Step 2: Machine Sewing and Turning
You're ready to sew. This is a super simple sewing project. First pin the front and back pieces of your drink coasters with right sides together. Start sewing about 1 inch in from one edge with a 1/4 inch seam. Be sure to back-stitch at the beginning.
Continue sewing around the coaster. As you round each corner, stop a little before you get to where you would turn, then take two stitches diagonally across the corner. Turn down the next side and continue stitching. Those diagonal stitches will create a nice square corner without a lot of bunching when you turn your drink coasters right side out.
Stitch all the way around, leaving a 3 inch opening on the side you first began stitching on, and back-stitching again at the end.
Trim the corners diagonally about 1/8 inch away from stitching to get rid of bulk in the corners.
Turn your drink coasters right side out. Gently use a ruler to help get nice square corners.
