Return to Make a Daily Planner Binder: Part 2

Make a Daily Planner Binder: Part 3

The next step in making your daily planner binder, is to add a title to the front cover. I just used the word "Planner," but you could use whatever works for you. You can use sticker letters (the easiest) or rub-ons. If you have a die cut machine, such as sizzix, or a cricut machine, with lettering templates, you could use that for your lettering. I used a cricut here.

You may also wish to add a title to the spine of your planner cover. I used block sticker letters to add the title "Elegant Gifts." To make the spine insert cut another piece of the card stock to fit the spine pocket. Then trim it with small pieces of the decorative paper at the top and bottom edges.

At this point you can stop if you like, or you can add a little more embellishment to your daily planner binder. Get creative and add whatever you like. Just remember you want it to be quite flat so that it will fit into the pocket. For this planner cover I added a preprinted vellum quote.

First, I tore the edges of the quote by tearing "up." Pull the torn part up toward you.

Next, I chalked the edges of the tear with brown chalk to give it a little dimension, and sothat it would stand out a little more from the background paper. Use a q-tip or chalk tool to do this. Then I ran it through my larger xyron, which works really well for vellum, as the adhesive doesn't show through the vellum. You could also use vellum tape.

I decided to add a little silk flower to the corner of the vellum. First I ran it through my small xyron. The pink color was a little brighter than my paper, so I chalked it with brown chalk to tone it down. Chalk it while it is still on the xyron backing paper to make it easy to handle.

Finally, peel off the silk flower carefully from the backing paper and adhere it to the corner of the vellum. I popped a gold brad into the center since my flower was actually from a silk floral stem and had a hole in the middle. Press any brads that you use nice and flat, by pressing down against the table surface.

All that's left to do is to slide it into the pockets of the binder. Opening up the binder all the way will loosen the tension on the pockets and make it easier to slide in. You will have to slide it slowly and carefully or it will bend and make it very hard to go in. Keep your fingers very close to the edge of the binder, and gradually wiggle it down in.

With your new daily planner cover, you are half-way to a better organized life! I would be lost without my daily planner. It is so much more inviting to use when it's so pretty too!

Here is a picture of the daily planner binder I made some time ago. I don't mind it sitting out, because I love the way it looks. Enjoy yours!
