Back to Altered Art Magnet Part 1

Altered Art Magnet Part 2

Now that you've got your pieces cut out and glued, for your altered art magnet, you are ready to assemble it. Peel the piece of paper you are going to put on the right side of the magnet off of the Xyron backing, and place it on the magnet.

Next, position the vellum quote on top of the right border, making sure the top of it will tuck under the top strip you will put on next.

Add the top border so that it overlaps the vellum quote.

Now it's time to add all the fun little embellishments. I first added my metal, "time," letters to the bottom left edge, using Zots regular glue dots. Rather than try to peel the dots off and stick them on by hand (they are very sticky and hard to handle), just press the letters onto the dots while still on their paper strip, then peel them off letter and all.

Your altered art magnet is almost finished. Don't you just get a kick out of taking something that most people would throw away, and turning it into something beautiful? Recycled craft projects are some of the most fun projects!

I added raised metal brads to the top strip of this magnet. At first I was going to attach them to the strip, then attach the strip to the magnet. However, I was afraid the prongs would pull the edges of the strip up and also show under the paper. So, I decided to attach them all the way through to the back of the magnet.

First, lay the brads on the magnet to decide where to position them. Then, slip a pencil underneath to make a little mark where you want to punch a hole. Use a small hole punch to punch all the way through the magnet. If you don't have a small punch, you could use a awl and hammer. You just want a hole big enough to get the prongs of the brad through. Insert brads and the open prongs in back. Press the brad down against a table or counter to flatten the prongs out, nice and tight. If your concerned that the prongs might scratch your refrigerator, cut a small piece of paper and use a glue dot to attach it over the prongs.

Use a 3-D glue dot to attach the charm. The 3-D Zots raise the charm up a little giving the magnet a little dimension. Charming!

Finally, attach the vellum clock to the left side of the magnet, above the lettering.

You're altered art magnet is done. Your refrigerator will wear it proudly!

It would also make a great teacher gift or hostess gift, so keep your eyes peeled for magnets you can use!
